Rhodactis Mushroom – A Showstopper Soft Coral That Demands Attention

If you're looking to add high-impact personality to your reef, the Rhodactis Mushroom delivers with bold color, unique texture, and serious presence. This is not your average soft coral—Rhodactis is the heavyweight champ of the mushroom family, offering eye-popping contrast and undeniable visual weight in any tank layout.

Color-wise, Rhodactis Mushrooms can show off a base that ranges from deep metallic green to rich red or purple, overlaid with fluorescent highlights that react intensely under blue-heavy LED lighting. Expect electric blues, iridescent oranges, or neon greens popping from the polyp surface, often concentrated around the oral disc. Under actinic lighting, this coral practically glows with alien-lava-lamp brilliance.

These corals have a fleshy, oversized growth form with a lobed and sometimes textured surface that gives them a “bubbly” or even carpet-like look. They don’t branch in the traditional sense—instead, they expand broadly and form mat-like colonies that slowly spread across rockwork. Rhodactis grow at a moderate pace but can eventually dominate their area, making them ideal for filling out mid-ground zones with minimal maintenance.
